Rev. Martai D. McCullough,
Senior Pastor
Pastor McCullough is the pastor of the Greater New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church of Liberty City referred to as GNBINTHECITY. Greater New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church of Liberty City, Inc. sits in the community of Liberty City, where the majority of the inhabitants live below the line of poverty. Not only does the crime rate of the neighborhood known as Liberty City exceeds the national numbers, they are also among the highest for the neighborhoods within Miami-Dade County.
The conditions of the community are alarming and as Christians, we often say that Christ is a bridge over trouble water. In addition, as Christians we are to strive to be Christ like. Pastor McCullough has asked GNBINTHECITY if they are a BRIDGE? Under the leadership of Pastor McCullough, GNBINTHECITY’s mission has become to be a church without walls. He is often quoted as saying at Greater New Bethel we are a church that is remembering the call and conditions of the community, while reaching beyond the comfort of the church walls that there will be a reconnection of the church to the community. GNBINTHECITY is working towards this task by being a BRIDGE. Believers Response Initiative to Develop, Grow and Empower.
GNBINTHECITY has continued to be a blessing to the surrounding community with numerous outreach and evangelistic efforts. Monthly feeding of the homeless, clothing drives to benefit the people of Haiti. Toy giveaway during Christmas and backpacks with school supplies to students of the community are some of the efforts underway to make strides towards becoming a BRIDGE. There are plans associated with BRIDGE that will include setting up a computer lab and tutoring services for youth to utilize to facilitate the completion of homework, along with a home to work program for single mothers that will empower them to obtain and maintain employment.
Pastor McCullough was born and raised in the Brownsville community to Robert and Hilda McCullough and matriculated through the Miami-Dade County Public School System.
